Hello, old friend
Sunday, June 27th, 2010I recently returned from a road trip to Whitefish, Montana to visit my friend Katie. For the past few years, Katie has been building a sled dog kennel. She ran a team of dogs this past winter in the Yukon Quest, which is a 1,000-mile sled dog race from Alaska to Canada.
I was delighted to see a stack of business cards that I had designed for the kennel last summer stashed in her car consol. When I worked with her to design the logo and business cards, it was fun for me to learn about her project, which is so different from anything I’ve ever attempted.
Also, as a designer working with others, you never know where your work is going to end up and who will see it. It’s like planting seeds and not knowing what will grow from them. Since most of the design work that I have done so far has been for my graphic design school, I haven’t seen many of my creations circulate, so it was exciting to see them in action.
Katie is now closing the kennel and selling her sled dogs to move on to new adventures, so the business cards are no longer active. However, she said that she gave out about 95 of the 100 that she had printed to sponsors and fans; I was glad to have been a part of it.
