hope series
Living with the ecological instability that I have known my whole life and that gets worse every feels overwhelmingly terrible, like a pit in my stomach. And simultaneously, if I let myself truly imagine what our world could look or feel like if we genuinely prioritized the health of our environment, I feel sparkly in my arms, and at ease. I hold the tension between these polarities as I work abstractly. I explore the beginnings of what it might be like to live in harmony with our environment and each other, by incorporating uplifting colors, painted weavings and text. In my reaching for what it feels like to have a healed relationship with each other and with earth, I can’t avoid the tension around the ways in which capitalism and extraction shape our lives and environments. My paintings reach for hope, yet also acknowledge the uncomfortable aspects of living in this moment.
